SLS represented a company in sales tax refund request proceedings with the Kansas Department of Revenue (KDoR). The KDoR is responsible for, among other things, enforcing regulations related to payment of sales tax. After SLS’s client paid sales tax on purchases of business equipment, it learned of an exemption from the tax. Based on the exemption, the company applied to the KDoR for a refund of the sales taxes it had paid. The KDoR initially rejected the company’s request.
SLS represented the company before the KDoR in opposing the rejection. The KDoR reversed its position and granted the company a full refund of the sales tax it had paid. The action provided SLS ‘s client with complete relief from the tax liability.
