Experience
Mr. Lombardo was admitted to the Missouri Bar in 1981. From 1981 through 1984, he was a full-time trial assistant for the Jackson County Prosecutor’s office, during which time he tried numerous criminal cases ranging from robberies to homicides. In 1984, Mr. Lombardo entered private practice when he went to work with the law firm of Linde Thompson Fairchild Langworthy Kohn & VanDyke where he became a partner in 1987. He was a partner at the firm of McDowell Rice & Smith from 1991 to 1994. In 1994, Mr. Lombardo and Mike Shaffer started the law firm of Shaffer Lombardo, which is now Shaffer Lombardo Shurin.
Mr. Lombardo’s practice has included representing both plaintiffs and defendants in litigation including commercial matters, products liability, medical malpractice, and personal injury. He has represented plaintiffs in substantial complex matters including, among others, lawsuits including Big Four accounting firms, major investment banking firms, officers and directors of Fortune 500 companies, the telecom industry, the managed healthcare industry, utilities, municipalities, and manufacturers of products. On numerous occasions, he has been lead or co-lead counsel for plaintiff on cases where his clients received recoveries in the millions of dollars including eight and nine figure results. In 2006 and 2008, he was co-lead counsel on cases against major investment banks where his clients recovered $95 million and $100 million respectively. His defense practice has included representing both physicians and attorneys in malpractice cases as well as general liability and products liability defense. He also represents contractors and architects in construction litigation.

Mr. Lombardo is admitted to practice law before the State Bar of Missouri, the State Bar of Kansas, the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, the United States District Court for the District of Kansas and the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Missouri Bar Association, the Kansas Bar Association, the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, and the American Association for Justice.
Professional Honors
Mr. Lombardo was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers in 2008. He was selected as a “Super Lawyer” for Missouri and Kansas in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. He has been rated “AV” by Martindale Hubble since 1994.
Education
Mr. Lombardo’s undergraduate education was at Tulane University and the University of Kansas where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1978. He received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Missouri - Kansas City in 1981, graduating with distinction, and served as a member of the UMKC Law Review from 1978-1981. He was the Chapter Justice for Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity in 1981 and the Alumni Justice in 1988.
Personal
Mr. Lombardo and his wife Debra have two sons. Mr. Lombardo enjoys traveling, bicycling and snow skiing.
