TRANSACTION: SLS represents client in deal to Operation of Exchange City and Earthworks.
Shaffer Lombardo Shurin attorneys Leland Shurin and Dan Runion represented TLE KC in obtaining the exclusive rights to operate Exchange City and Earthworks in the Kansas City metro region. As a result of this transaction both programs, which have been provided for over 30 years, will continue to be available to future generations of Kansas Citians. TLE KC is a nonprofit corporation in Kansas City and provides Exchange City and Earthworks from its unique cave space of nearly 35,000 square feet at 8300 NE Underground Drive to as many as 20,000 grade school and middle school students annually from the Kansas City metro and outlying areas.
Both Exchange City and Earthworks are remarkable hands-on experiential learning programs for students. These experiences combine an exciting standards-based curriculum taught by teachers in their classroom followed by a field trip visit to a life-size, state-of-the-art city run by the students. Under the Exchange City program these hands-on learning experiences reinforce key curriculum areas of Math, Language Arts, Economics, Technology Skills and Civics. EarthWorks is an underground laboratory realistically displaying five Midwestern habitats: soil, prairie, pond, cave and forest. The laboratory comes to life when young people take on the role of scientists who work to determine the health of a habitat. Scientific teams collaborate to determine the health of a habitat as they investigate the necessary components that allow a habitat to sustain life.
