TRIAL VERDICT:
Jury finds in favor of radiologist represented by SLS in medical malpractice case in Kansas.
Case Information:
Plaintiff v. Radiologist
Circuit Court of Johnson County, Kansas
Description:
Plaintiff became partially paralyzed as a result of an infectious process that caused an epidural abscess. SLS attorney Jayson Ford represented the radiologist defendant in a medical malpractice lawsuit wherein it was alleged that the radiologist failed to identify an epidural abscess on a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) of the patient’s spine. A subsequent MRI report by the defendant radiologist commented that in retrospect an abscess could be seen on the earlier MRI. The plaintiff alleged that had the abscess been diagnosed sooner, she would not be wheelchair bound due to partial paralysis of the legs. Ford showed the jury the hundreds of MRI images analyzed by the radiologist and why it was correct to conclude that an epidural abscess did not exist at the time of the initial MRI. Plaintiff requested damages in excess of One Million Dollars due to her partial paralysis.
Verdict:
The jury returned a defense verdict for the radiologist represented by SLS on all counts.
