Experience
Mr. Ford has been an attorney with the law firm, Shaffer Lombardo Shurin (“SLS”) since January 1, 2000. Prior to coming to SLS, Mr. Ford practiced law at Jacobson, Maynard, Tuschman & Kalur (“JMTK”). While working at the Cleveland, Ohio and Kansas City, Missouri offices of JMTK, Mr. Ford practiced in the areas of medical and dental malpractice defense, hospital defense and healthcare risk management. During his past ten years of practice, Mr. Ford has specialized almost exclusively in the defense of healthcare providers in medical negligence cases. Throughout his career, Mr. Ford has represented thousands of healthcare providers and served as lead counsel in many jury trials in a myriad of venues. He has been awarded Martindale-Hubbell’s highest “AV” rating.
Instructional Experience
In addition to the numerous talks that Mr. Ford gives each year to physician and nursing groups on various topics related to medical negligence and risk management, Mr. Ford was an Adjunct Professor of Law and Medicine at Creighton University from 2001 to 2003. From 1996 to present, Mr. Ford has been an Invited Lecturer of Medical Malpractice Law for the University Of Kansas School Of Nursing.
Education
Mr. Ford received his Bachelor of Arts (magna cum laude) in Psychology from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1985 and his Juris Doctorate from the Creighton University School of Law in Omaha, Nebraska in 1988.
Professional
Mr. Ford is admitted to practice law before the State Bar of Missouri, the State Bar of Kansas, and the State Bar of Nebraska, the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri and the United States District Court for the District of Kansas. Mr. Ford is a member of the Missouri Bar Association, the Nebraska Bar Association, the Kansas Bar Association and the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association.
Personal
Mr. Ford spends his free time either at the gym or in a book store. He plays in a competitive volleyball league. He and his wife Debbie live in rural Basehor, Kansas.
