Experience
Mr. Grimes began representing healthcare providers upon graduating from law school in 1987. He initially joined the law firm of Jacobson, Maynard, Tuschman & Kalur (“JMTK”) in Cleveland, Ohio in 1987. After representing physicians for five years in Cleveland, Mr. Grimes moved to Kansas City and continued working for JMTK for five more years. During those ten years, Mr. Grimes practiced in the areas of medical and dental malpractice defense, hospital defense, and healthcare risk management. Following his practice with JMTK, Mr. Grimes became the Chief Litigation Counsel for Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. During his 2½ years as Chief Litigation Counsel, Mr. Grimes continued to represent physicians and the hospital in medical malpractice defense matters, and also frequently lectured on malpractice avoidance matters. Mr. Grimes has represented healthcare providers throughout Ohio, Missouri and Kansas. Mr. Grimes has also appeared before the Ohio Supreme Court, multiple Ohio Courts of Appeals, and the Eastern District of Missouri Court of Appeals on behalf of healthcare providers. Mr. Grimes joined Shaffer Lombardo Shurin (“SLS”) in December of 2000. He has been awarded Martindale-Hubbell’s highest “AV” rating.

Mr. Grimes is admitted to practice before the State Bar of Missouri, the State Bar of Kansas, the State Bar of Ohio, the United States District Court for the District of Kansas and the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri. He is a member of the Missouri Bar Association, the Kansas Bar Association, and the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association.
Education
Mr. Grimes received his Bachelor of Arts (magna cum laude) in English from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1984 and his Juris Doctorate from the Case Western Reserve School of Law in Cleveland, Ohio in 1987.
Personal
Mr. Grimes is a second-degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. He and his wife, Jacqui, have 3 sons.
